Industry Ministry sets rules for industry outside designated sites

Based on Cabinet Resolution No. (533) and the results of the Central Committee’s work,

The Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources has announced the requirements for practicing industrial activities outside designated industrial sites, based on the outcomes of the Central Committee formed by Cabinet Resolution No. (533) dated 4/7/1445 AH. The Ministry chaired the committee with the participation of seven other government entities to address the situation of factories located outside designated industrial lands. This aims to regulate industrial activities, encourage industrial investment, and enhance sustainable industrial development in the Kingdom.

According to the results of the Central Committee, 1,143 industrial activities were classified according to their environmental impact. 46 industrial activities with low environmental impact were identified as permitted within cities on commercial streets. Other activities were designated to be practiced on city outskirts, taking into account compliance with industrial, environmental, and municipal licensing requirements, safety permits, and other requirements necessary for conducting industrial activities.

These new regulations and requirements are expected to support the growth of industrial investments in the Kingdom, pave the way for highly competitive local industries, open new opportunities for quality job creation, empower women in the industrial sector, and enhance social and economic development.

It is worth noting that the committee formed under Cabinet Resolution No. (533) was chaired by the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources and included representatives from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Ministry of Investment, in addition to the General Authority for State Real Estate, the National Center for Environmental Compliance Control, and the Development Authorities Support Center.
